TWO BE ONE
AURORA'S TALE
I first started this journey in 2009. It has taken me an entire decade! Can you believe it? I had no idea writing a book was such a huge proces. I was quite naive, I just thought that I would simply write a book, send it out to publishers, they would love and edit it and that would be that!
But that's not how the real world works. How wrong I was...
The last five years were intensive writing following five years of writing here and there, just testing the writing waters. Before that it was merely an idea, a little seed growing in my mind until I couldn't deny the fullblown tree any longer; it was time, my story needed to be told.
My book is at draft no.5 and I'm finally happy with the outline of the book and the way the story is unfolding. Writing turned out to be a lot harder than I thought, and don't let me get started about the editing process! I just thought that I could simply write down what I thought, and describe the different scenes that I saw in my head. And so I did. And then I read it back.
But... what horror!
It was all purple proze, typical newby mistakes and just terrible, flowery wording, oh my! Writing is indeed an art. So here's me taking of my hat in respect to other authors. But I stuck with it like a pitbull with a bone, just biting down harder, and wrote my book, and then rewrote it, and rewrote it, and rewrote it until it became something edible. But still it wasn't quite up to parr, but I discovered that you learn to write by... doing it.
I'm currently in the process of multiple rounds of revising and editing, and am thinking about getting beta readers to help me along and pick up the mistakes I'm overlooking because I'm just so close and emotionally involved in my book.
Then the dreary query letters will be on my horizon, a daunting prospect I must say. But, step by step, I'll get there.
When finally finished I'll send it out to publishers, and hopefully someone will shout; 'Yes!! This is great! We need to publish this right away!' :-) And then all my hard work will pay off...
