About me (in a nutshell);

What got me into this;

True Angels leave early

When my husband Harald passed away from cancer, I was utterly devastated. My grief, mental suffering, mourning and sense of loss were so colossal I broke down. My misery was never-ending. I did talk with my loved ones, but every conversation left me wanting as words just fell short. They were so unbearably insufficient, that I had to find another way of expressing myself. I needed to let my feelings out or be swallowed up whole. Suddenly images just sprung to life in my head, the representations of my heart wrenching memories. This is how I found painting. My art became a refuge.

Amor vincit omnia

All my art works are oil paint on canvas. The images are in the tradition of magical realism with lots of symbolism and the traditional techniques of the Dutch masters of old. It is a direction in art in which an attempt is made to connect this reality to a higher reality, so hallucinatory images or dream effects occur.

When sorting out my paintings for a large art exhibition which would show several pieces, I felt that my paintings’ content was strongly linked. When hung together, an immediate resonance sounded between them; together they’re quite different than when seen individually or in small groups. Together they’re a symphony, together you discover the destination of my paintings; they tell my life story in pictures, color, emotion and symbolism. They display our complete love story in all its aspects. And even beyond that; they are universal and tell the love story of humanity at large, like Fairytales do. This unearthing birthed the idea to write down my lifestory alongside the paintings.

Et voila; my book was born...

Oh, and yes, Aurora Sekhmet is my penname.  The name Aurora was given to me by my Beloved and I'm honored to wear it.

Goddess Aurora is beautiful, commanding and ever-young; she renews herself every morning at dawn and flies across the sky in her  two horse chariot bringing light to heavens and earth. She has a purple and golden cloak that spreads out behind her as she rides, and she's said to scatter roses and flowers before her. She was often described as being hope, renewal and rejuvenation to all living mortal beings. Others describe her with great white wings. Also there's princess Aurora also known as Sleeping Beauty, who awakens after a 100-year sleep after pricking her finger on a spinning wheel's spindle by true love's kiss. The curse is broken. This to me represents the soul which awakens after finding true love.

Goddess Sekhmet is a mighty warrior goddess as well as powerfull goddess of healing. She is depicted as as a lion-headed woman wearing a red dress with the addition of a sun disc circled by a cobra on her head. She often holds the ankh, the symbol of life.  She's called the daughter of  Ra, the God of Light, is both a creative and destructive force, but above all, she's the protector of Ma'at; Justice and Balance and named; 'The One Who Loves Ma'at and Who Detests Evil'.
